Adding a password

When you select the A option to add a new password record, the following prompt is displayed:

ENTER PASSWORD: You may enter up to 32 characters that will be used as an individual's sign-on password.

Next, the cursor moves to the following prompt:

NAME: Enter the user's name (up to 32 characters). This field is optional, but is very useful in matching users with their passwords.

The cursor then moves to the following prompts:

PROGRAM TO RUN:

DIR:

These prompts allow you to specify an application program to be run when the password is used to sign-on to the system. The PROGRAM TO RUN prompt is used to enter a program name (up to eight characters), and the DIR prompt is used to enter the Comet directory name where the program is located (up to three characters).

Note: If no program is specified, the QMONITOR program will be run when the user enters their password.

The cursor moves to the following prompt:

ALLOW MONITOR ACCESS:

This field is a flag used to indicate whether or not the user's password will allow use of the ACCESS command at the READY prompt on QMONITOR. If a "Y" is chosen, the user will be able to access additional Comet directories from QMONITOR. If an "N" is chosen, the user will not be able to access additional directories from QMONITOR.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Be sure to create a "master password" that DOES NOT run a program and DOES allow monitor access.

Next, the cursor moves to the directory matrix. At this point, you may enter the Comet directories to be associated with the user's password. You may enter up to 50 directory names. The order in which these directories are listed is the order in which they will be accessed when the user signs on to the system.

Note: All passwords should have access to the directory that contains the monitor program, QMONITOR.

Once the directory names have been entered, press F10. The following prompt is displayed:

IS THE ABOVE CORRECT? (Y/N)

If the password information is correct as entered, type Y and press Enter.

If you want to edit the password information, type N and press Enter. The cursor will be moved to the top of the screen where you can change any of the information.
