Discussion: The FILE statement is used for several purposes, including:

setting the buffer size for an asynchronous device

setting the delimiter string

moving the file pointer in a disk file

setting various control functions

changing the direction of the file pointer to forward or reverse

Reading or writing comma delimited files.
